District

Ak-Suu District is the mountain side of eastern Issyk-Kul. Teploklyuchenka, Altyn-Arashan, Jyrgalan, Ala-Kul approaches and hot-spring valleys beyond Karakol give the district a field-ready mix of trekking, riding, winter travel and hosted valley stays.

Jeti-Oguz District carries some of Issyk-Kul’s most dramatic south-shore contrasts. Kyzyl-Suu, red sandstone cliffs, Barskoon valley roads, villages and high mountain approaches turn the lake’s edge into a gateway inland, upward and beyond.

Issyk-Kul District is the lake’s social shore. Cholpon-Ata, resort villages, beaches, petroglyphs, markets and traffic make this stretch lively and pressured in summer, with the lake treated as a shared holiday space rather than wilderness.

Ton District gives Issyk-Kul a drier, more handmade south-shore identity. Bokonbaevo, Kyzyl-Tuu, yurt craft, eagle-hunting traditions, canyons and open lake roads feel far from the resort pressure of the north and its lakeside villages, especially in summer.

Tyup District is Issyk-Kul’s eastern opening, where lake life gives way to fields, village roads and high border valleys. Tyup town, the north-eastern shore and routes toward Karkyra make the district feel agricultural and outward-looking beyond Karakol.

Ak-Talaa District carries the quieter west of Naryn Region. Baetov, Naryn River bends, dry slopes and scattered villages give the area a leaner highland identity than Kochkor or At-Bashy, with distance felt in fuel, weather, road time and empty horizons.

At-Bashy District is Naryn’s southern borderland, where high pastures, Tash-Rabat, At-Bashy village and the road toward Torugart make travel feel both historical and exposed. Permits, weather, distance and local drivers are part of the route.

Jumgal District is a western approach to Naryn’s pasture country. Chaek, Kyzart, Kokemeren valley roads and access toward Song-Kul give the district a rougher, less polished role than Kochkor’s better-known departure point west of the lake.

Kochkor District is where highland logistics become human. Kochkor town, felt workshops, guesthouse courtyards, drivers, horsemen and roads toward Song-Kul make the district a practical base before the pasture world begins in summer and winter.

Naryn District holds the practical middle of the highlands. Naryn city, the Naryn River, Eki-Naryn approaches, supply shops, guesthouses and road links make the district a base before journeys continue toward At-Bashy, Song-Kul or the interior.
