Jetisu Region

Jetisu Region carries the older name of Zhetysu through Taldykorgan, Alakol, Dzungarian Alatau roads and lake-country travel. Wind, rail and border direction shape the journey. Alakol summers and mountain roads both need honest pacing, not scenic shorthand.

Zharkent mosque

The Zharkent mosque is a grandiose building of the 19th century; its architecture combines the motives of Central Asian and Chinese architecture. The main building material for the construction of the temple was wood - logs of the Tien Shan spruce, which were delivered to Zharkent from the Aksu and Ketmen mountains. This structure is already over 120 years old (the museum itself claims that mosques are 130 years old, if you keep a record from the beginning of construction, that is, from 1887), but it still causes surprise for all people who see it for the first time.

Zharkent's history dates back centuries. Formerly, the city was one of the fortified points of the Great Silk Road, as evidenced by archaeological finds. Historians claim that it was in these regions that the battles of the Dzungars with the Kazakhs took place.
