On the road from Tashkent to Osh

Leaving Tashkent, the road heads east toward the fertile Ferghana Valley. After crossing the gentle slopes of the Kalmik Pass, travelers are rewarded with sweeping views over one of Central Asia’s most productive agricultural regions. Orchards, cotton and melon fields, bustling villages, and roadside tea houses accompany the journey through a landscape shaped by centuries of farming and Silk Road trade.

Passing through Andijan, one of the valley’s largest cities, travelers experience the lively atmosphere of eastern Uzbekistan, where colorful bazaars and traditional crafts remain an important part of daily life. The route continues through a mosaic of cultivated fields and settlements, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage shared by the peoples of the Ferghana Valley.

After crossing at Dostlik, travelers meet their new guide and driver for the continuation of the journey, the road follows the outskirts of Osh through residential neighborhoods before reaching the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan. Framed by the iconic silhouette of Suleiman-Too Mountain, Osh is one of Central Asia’s oldest cities and has welcomed merchants, pilgrims, and travelers for more than two millennia.

While the journey can be done in one long day, we recommend splitting it into two days to fully enjoy the rich cultural and historical stops of the Ferghana Valley — a choice that also supports a more sustainable, lower-emission approach to travel.
