Villages

Khargush is a small hamlet in the Tajik Pamirs located 3900 meters south of the Khargush pass (4344 meters above sea level). Nothing really interesting, it's mostly a border guard post. It is also the intersection between the road that leads to the Khargush pass to the north, Lake Zorkul and its nature reserve to the east and the village of Langar to the west. There are a few guesthouses on the farms in the village. The panorama on the Vakhan range is impressive. Kohe Belandtarin peak is over 6200 meters, and its altitude is disputed, but it is one of the highest peaks in Afghanistan.

This village perched at 2300 m is located in the sacred valley of Khembalung, in the national park Makalu-Barun. Our project aims to ensure the food self-sufficiency of the village, but also to become a permaculture training center.

Kyzart is a small village at the foot of the Song Kul's lake. Inhabitants are mainly shepherds who lead their flocks in the summer around Song Kul lake. In winter, you can reach the lake by ski-touring, snowshoeing or horseback riding. 

Saty is a small village in the Shilik valley, 60km from Charyn Canyon. The village is situated at the foot of Kaindy lake and Kolsay lakes, on the south side of the Kungey Alatoo mountain range marking the border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The region is also wellknown by archeolog because of numerous Scythian's tombs. The local CBT ecotourism association offer different lodges in the village.

Tuura-Suu is an altitude village located 8km south of Bokonbaevo (capital of Tong district). This small village is the last village at the foot of the Tong Pass, by which a road that is no longer passable by vehicle, joins Naryn Oblast, and the hot springs of Jeli-Suu. The village shepherds set up yurts in the pastures during the summer. It is also the starting point for accompanying eagle hunters on horseback, and the most authentic period is winter during the hunting season.

Yamchun is a tajik village 90 km upper than Ishkashim village and 2 km lower than Vrang village. It stand on the shore of the Panj river and at the border of the Wakhan corridor, just in front of the Afghan Yamit village. The village was built at the foot of the fortress with the same name and the hot springs of Bibi Fatima Zahro. The fortress was built from the 3rd century BC, but human sign in this region are older. 

Yamg village is situated 5 km northeast from Yamchun village in the Wakhan corridor, on the tajik side. Yamg is home of Mubarek Kadam Wakhani, a sufi religious poet, philosoph, musician and astronomer. Wakhani lived from 1839 to 1903. Don’t miss the solar calendar for determining Navruz festival's date, just outside the museum. Admission fee is 10 TJS.

Jyrgalan (Jergalan, Djyrgalan) is a small village situated in the Ak-Suu district, eastern part of the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Translated from the Kyrgyz language, Jyrgal - "joy, pleasure", en - "valley". The village is located on the East bank of the Jirgalan River and has about a hundred local residents. In the last decade, the village of Jyrgalan began to be rebuilt as a place for ecotourism, which provides hiking and horseback riding in the summer months and backcountry skiing in the winter. Initially, the village was founded as a coal mining city during the Soviet period.

​Epkin is a village not far from Kochkor. It is situated in a beautiful valley. Around the village are different interesting things to see, like a salt mine, kourganes and a small lake.
