The Kichi Kolduk Lake (Small Köldük) is a small alpine lake located in the Kichi-Alai foothills above the Gulcho valley in southern Kyrgyzstan, at an altitude of about 2,540 meters. It lies in an open mountain basin at the foot of a distinctive pyramidal peak reaching 3,519 meters, which dominates the landscape. The lake is modest in size, roughly 400 meters wide, but set in a wide amphitheatre of alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and seasonal streams flowing down from the Alai mountains.
Although a rough access road reaches the valley, the lake is increasingly appreciated as a hiking destination, and it is recommended to walk the final section in order to reduce impact on the environment and enjoy the scenery more fully. The site is not part of any protected natural reserve, which makes it particularly sensitive to disturbance. Visitors are encouraged to respect the fragile ecosystem, avoid driving directly to the shore when possible, and carry all waste back, as the area remains an unregulated but beautiful and vulnerable alpine environment.
Just a short distance away, about 2 km downhill, are the small seasonal winter farms of Kochojurt, while the nearest permanent settlement is the village of Köldiünshaty, located around 5 km down on the main Osh–Alai road junction. The nearby Chong Kolduk Lake (Big Kolduk) can also be combined in a short hike, making the area a rewarding but still quiet day excursion where natural landscapes and traditional pastoral life coexist.
