Kel-Suu lake - Bishkek

After breakfast with Meder and his family, we say goodbye to the peaceful Kök-Kyia Valley and begin our journey back to Bishkek. Crossing the wide Ak-Suu Valley, we head toward the rugged landscapes of Ak-Say Valley, where the vast, open plains stretch endlessly before us.

We then ascend to the Kaindy Pass, where we reach the military checkpoint, marking our exit from the controlled border zone. After completing the formalities, we descend into the Bosogo pastures, where nomadic herders graze their animals against a backdrop of rolling hills and alpine meadows. Following the At-Bashi River, we rejoin the main road and drive through the broad At-Bashi Valley, where the mountains gradually give way to more populated areas.

By midday, we arrive in Naryn city, where we stop for lunch and a short break before continuing north. The road takes us through Kochkor, a charming town where we can visit a felt-making workshop or enjoy a tea break. Shortly after, we pass the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, its blue waters contrasting with the surrounding arid hills.

Entering the Boom Gorge, we follow the Chu River as it winds through dramatic rock formations, marking the final stretch of our journey. By late afternoon or early evening, we arrive back in Bishkek, where we conclude our adventure through some of Kyrgyzstan’s most remote and stunning landscapes.

Winter Route Note: If the Kaindy Pass is closed due to snow, we take an alternative route via Torugart Pass.
