Journey notes
About this Journey
An early start in the mountain village of Kyzyl-Ozgorush, in a remote valley south of the Toktogul Reservoir. Ski touring begins from the village on the northern slopes of Kara-Kyr, rising to around 3,700 metres. Broad alpine terrain allows for different ascent and descent options according to snow, weather and group level.
The route climbs gradually through open mountain pastures, gaining height above the village and surrounding valleys. From the chosen high point, skins come off for a descent towards Kyzyl-Ozgorush, with up to around 1,000 metres of vertical skiing possible. The exact high point, line and timing remain flexible according to conditions.
Lunch follows at the family guesthouse in Kyzyl-Ozgorush before the drive to Toktogul. On arrival, a short walk through the town provides a look at local streets and daily life beside the Toktogul Reservoir. The day ends with a traditional Kyrgyz dinner.
