Naryn Region

Kalmak-Ashuu Pass is located on the shortest access between Kochkor and Song Kul Lake. The pass is opened by a snow-blower at the end of May. and will close when the first snowfall falls in late October. But the nomads who wait each year for the pass to open will leave well before it closes. It is said that the pass is named "Kalmak" because it is from this pass that Kalmyk soldiers once attacked Kyrgyz on the Song Kul meadows.

Chatyr-Kul lake is an endorheic lake on the south-western side of the At-Bashi  range in the district of Naryn Province. On the south, the road linking Bishkek to Kashgar runs alongside the lake and exceptional mineral water sources. But it is above all the summer habitat of many species of migratory birds. The name of the lake means “Celestial Lake” in Kyrgyz (literally "Roof Lake"). The lake and around it is part of the Karatal-Japyryk State Nature Reserve. The lake is a Ramsar site of globally significant biodiversity.

To the south of the Djaman-Too mountain chain, is the upper valley of Arpa, which stretches for about sixty kilometers, and up to 25km in width. It is mainly yak breeders who come for the summer season. To get there, you must have a border zone permit.

Koshoi-Korgon is a fortress located in the center of the At-Bashy Valley. It was strategically located on the Silk Road between Kashgar and the Naryn region in Kyrgyzstan.

The city is rectangular in shape from 245 to 250 m. The height of the preserved walls is 4 to 8 m.

There are 60 towers around the perimeter: 19 in the north, 13 in the south, 17 in the east and 11 in the west. The walls and towers are made of large blocks of clay and long bricks. The wall is 7 to 9 m thick on the ground and 3 to 4 m in height.

South of the At-Bashi mountain range, lies the upper Ak-Say valley, which stretches for a hundred kilometers, and up to 40 km in width. It is mainly yak breeders who come for the summer season. Some shepherds stay in the winter with their herd of yaks, but the temperatures are harsh and can drop to -40 degrees Celsius in winter.

This highland is the habitat of wild sheep Marco Polo, Ibex, snow leopard and ... as local hunters said, the snowman.

Shepherd's Life is an ecotourism association founded by Helvetas offering yurt house and homestays on the territory of Naryn. Ainura is the coordinator and office is based in Kochkor. In partnership with the association, Nomad's Land develops new programs and contributes to the training of local tourism employees.

The peak is situated at the SE border with China. Still few ascent on incredible red rocks between two enormous glaciers.
