Sights

This valley lies on the southern flank of the Ak-Shyyrak mountain range. 

In Soviet times there was an important center for geologists. Today, hardly any ruins remain, and the place is rarely visited by travelers. 

The animal life is very wild, and you will undoubtedly see herds of Marco Polo or Ibex.

Song Kul's waterfalls are situated about 10 km from the exit of the Song Kul's lake. There is an easy access from the road to Naryn.

Taragay the river is the union of the Kumtor River and Arabel Suu. She then takes the name of Naryn river when she meets the Karasay.

It is a small canyon in the Ak-Shirak region, between the Ishtik Caravanserai camp and Baralbas Canyon.

A small lake of the National park of Chong Kemin situated 17km after the last village Tegirmenti. The lake is 100 meters diameter.

A large waterfall is located north of the village. The waterfall is like a long tongue coming out of a crevice in the rock. This narrow stream of water rushes from a sheer cliff 80 meters high with a breathtaking roar - it truly is an impressive sight!

It is not that easy to access the waterfall, there are rather slippery embankments around the waterfall. The waterfall falls into a hollow. It's hard to see the whole waterfall.

But it is possible to access from the bottom and enter the rift and see yet another waterfall.

Barskoon waterfall is a geological protected area located in Jeti-Oguz District of Issyk Kul Province of Kyrgyzstan in 90 km to the south-west of Karakol on one of the tributaries of Barskaun River. It was established in 1975. 

Within the Barskoon valley there are two waterfalls on top of the mountain and the mountainside. At the foot of the mountain you can enjoy the beautiful river of Barskoon. During the summer time there yurts built. At the yurt you try Kyrgyz traditional drink Kymys while enjoying the beauty of the landscape Why you should go there?

The geophysical station in the valley of Chong Kyzyl-Suu was built in 1948 by Germans, who have been captured in Kyrgyzstan. At that time, there was no way for cars to get to the station, so they had to transport all building materials on camels. 

The purpose of the station was already then to observe the glaciers, mountains and the animal world. There worked hydrologists and geomorphologists from many different nations.

This open pit mine is one of the largest in Kyrgyzstan. You can see it when you take the road between Song Kul Lake and Chaek.

The waters of the river Kumtor come from melting glaciers in the northwest of the mountain range Ak-Shirak. It loses its name as soon as it meets the river Arabel Suu and takes the new name Taragay.
