Sights

Zorkul Lake stretches from east to west for about 20 km and is located 4120 meters above sea level on the Afghan-Tajik border. Part of the waters have their source in the Vakhan chain located to the south and its Concordia peak (5,470 m), about 11 km (as the crow flies) south of the lake. The northern half of the lake is in Tajikistan, at the foot of the Alichur-South Range. where it is protected as part of the Zorkul Nature Reserve. From the lake, to the west, flows the Pamir River, tracing the Afghan-Tajik border. It is therefore a source of the Amu Darya or the Oxus river.

The Naltar Valley is located 34 km from the town of Gilgit. Its nature is very rich and in 1975 a protected area was created. The reserve is covered with forests, mixed mountain forests, deciduous and coniferous. Coniferous species present include Picea and Juniperus. Among the trees present are Fraxinus, Olesya, Pistachio, Sagere, Bettiaula, Salix, Populus and Krascheninnikovia ceratoides. Some herbs that grow here and there include Artemisia, Haloxylon and Stipa.

The history of the Cathedral of the Assumption is unique in that it was once a small cemetery church, called the Church of St. Panteleimon. In the middle of the last century, work to expand the temple began. In the 30-40s of the last century, the temple was closed, and its premises were used for the needs of the hospital. After the end of World War II, the church was consecrated in the name of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and was named the capital's main Orthodox cathedral.

This building is considered the tallest in all of Central Asia - the Tashkent TV Tower is 375 meters high, and its long sky-piercing spire can be seen from all corners of the city. About a hundred meters above sea level in the TV tower there is an observation deck, and one level higher are the halls of the restaurant, from where it is possible not only to admire the panoramic views from the windows, but also have lunch.

Chong-Tash camping site, which means “big stone” in translation, is mentioned in the writings of Semyonov Tien-Shansky (Russian geographer, botanist, statistician, economist, traveler, statesman and public figure. He received a postscript to his surname “Tyan-Shansky”,  because he described the Tien-Shan mountains). But Buddhist inscriptions show that this place was known long before that.

This is a very quiet and peaceful place.

23 km west of Alichur there is a hydrogen sulfide geyser that spurts out onto a plateau, 300 meters south of the Alichur River, surrounded by mountains, with temperatures reaching 71 ° C.

The Moldobashi peak is located in the Djetim massif which marks the border between the oblast of Issyk Kul and Naryn. 

From Kyrgyz, one could translate by "the head of the one who prays". The easiest access is from the village of Archaly, to the north, if not from the Naryn nature reserve, to the south.

Allanysh Jergez Lakes are found at the foot of Allanysh Pass, at the top of Chong Jergez Gorge. To the south, the lakes are surrounded by a mountain crown. To the north, a large meadow allows you to set up a tent camp. A large lake 400 meters long is to the east, and a smaller one to the west.

The small Ak-Balyk lake, about ten km from the village of Alichur is at an altitude of 3896 meters on the edge of the "highway" M-41 and the Gunt river. In the Kyrgyz language, "Ak" means "white" and "Balyk" means "fish". Local shepherds say that we have never been able to measure the depth of this lake.

Aksu-Zhabagly is a place where you can truly experience the wild nature of the Tien Shan. The reserve is located in southern Kazakhstan, near the border with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and is considered the first of its kind in Central Asia—it was founded in 1926 and is now listed as a UNESCO biosphere reserve unesco.org.
