Mary Region is Turkmenistan’s Murghab oasis, where Merv, Mary city, Bayramaly, Gonur Depe and irrigated roads sit inside a desert system. The strongest story begins with water, fields, market life and settlement before empire and archaeology.

Daşoguz Region is northern Turkmenistan shaped by Khorezm memory, Kunya-Urgench, canal-fed fields and border roads toward Uzbekistan. Water explains settlement here more than monuments alone, and pilgrimage keeps old places in use across the northern plain.

Ahal Region surrounds the capital zone with Kopet Dag foothills, Nisa, Geokdepe, garden settlements and roads into the Karakum. It is where controlled access, heritage visits, Akhal-Teke horse associations and desert timing become visible near the capital edge.

Balkan Region is Turkmenistan’s western edge, where the Caspian shore, Turkmenbashi port, Balkanabat, oil roads and desert plateaus shape the journey. Yangykala and Dehistan matter here, but fuel, wind, access, vehicle choice and long distances matter just as much.

Lebap Region is eastern Turkmenistan shaped by the Amu Darya. Turkmenabat, Farap links, bridges, rail lines, irrigated land and Koytendag routes make the region feel less like desert spectacle than river infrastructure and daily border movement.
