Tashkent

The history of the Cathedral of the Assumption is unique in that it was once a small cemetery church, called the Church of St. Panteleimon. In the middle of the last century, work to expand the temple began. In the 30-40s of the last century, the temple was closed, and its premises were used for the needs of the hospital. After the end of World War II, the church was consecrated in the name of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and was named the capital's main Orthodox cathedral.

Against the background of familiar Tashkent-looking blue domes and minarets, the Gothic silhouette of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, unusual for Central Asia, stands out - this is the main Catholic cathedral in Uzbekistan , known to local residents as the "Polish Church". It is worth saying that Christianity began to spread on the territory of Central Asia in the first centuries of our era due to the development of the Silk Road.

This building is considered the tallest in all of Central Asia - the Tashkent TV Tower is 375 meters high, and its long sky-piercing spire can be seen from all corners of the city. About a hundred meters above sea level in the TV tower there is an observation deck, and one level higher are the halls of the restaurant, from where it is possible not only to admire the panoramic views from the windows, but also have lunch.

In March 1923, the Russian Society of Voluntary Air Fleet "Dobrolet" was founded and was launched a training overhead lines in Uzbekistan. Innovation has become very important. At this time, from Tashkent to Almaty was done in 15 days on horseback, and the way from Tashkent to Bukhara and to Khiva on the caravan routes was very dangerous and the trip could held a month!
