Not far from the castle in the village Yamchun Vrang Ishkashim at the point where they exit from the gorge Vrang-Darya, the right tributary of the river Panj, unearthed a large religious complex, which is seen as a Buddhist monastery.

Qal'ai Khumb is a picturesque small town located in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan, along the Afghan border. Once the capital of the independent state of Darvoz, it now serves as the administrative center of the district bearing the same name.
The town is situated at the confluence of the Obi-Khumbob River and the powerful Panj River, which forms the natural border with Afghanistan and divides Qal'ai Khumb into two distinct parts: Qal'ai Khumb to the east and Darvoz to the west.
The Pamir range is located in the Northern Central Asia, it lies mostly in the Gorno-Badakhshan province of Tajikistan to the North it joins the Tian Shan mountains along the Alay Valley of Kyrgyzstan and to the south it borders with Hindu Kush mountains along Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor and with the east Chinese Muztagh. The word Pamir translated as "the roof of the world".
