The ski resort of Orrusay is located in an idyllic landscape on the heights of Bishkek, the Kyrgyz capital. From there, the view stretches over the entire Chuy valley which stretches as far as Kazakhstan.
If you want to explore a virtually derelict Soviet-era resort, this is it. Nevertheless, you will find a charming mountain hotel there. You can use the 2 ski lifts at the Ak-Tash joint station, but since there is no groomer, you will not have the choice to ski off the piste. There are also several races to do in ski touring, around the summit 3000 meters behind the station.
The ski resort is located in a juniper forest. There is the Pashtun juniper (Juniperus seravschanica or semiglobosa). The canyons dug by the streams are red. The mixture of red, white and green forms an incredible landscape where one likes to walk on foot or on snowshoes.
