Poi-Kalyan Complex

In Bukhara’s historic center, Po-i-Kalyan is an architectural complex built around one of Uzbekistan’s best-known landmarks. The name means “At the Foot of the Great One.”

The complex includes the 12th-century Kalyan Minaret, the Kalyan Mosque, and the Miri-Arab Madrasah. Rising about 45 meters, the minaret is distinguished by fired-brick ornamentation.

Po-i-Kalyan remains an important part of Bukhara’s cultural heritage, connecting the historic center with the city’s role along the Great Silk Road.
