Bokonbaeva - Kyzart

After breakfast, we leave the village of Bokonbaevo, we first meet a traditional eagle hunter and his trained bird nearby. During a fascinating demonstration, he explains the deep bond between hunter and eagle and reveals the secrets of training and caring for these majestic predators—a practice deeply rooted in Kyrgyz heritage.

We then continue to the village of Kyzyl-Tuu, where we meet Kurmanbek and his family, renowned craftsmen who have been building traditional yurts for generations. He introduces us to the art and symbolism of yurt construction—a true emblem of Central Asia’s nomadic cultures—and shares the ancestral techniques used to create these remarkable portable homes.

Our route next leads us to Kochkor, a center of Kyrgyz handicraft traditions. Here we visit a local felt cooperative, where artisans demonstrate the delicate, ancient process of felt-making, an essential skill of nomadic life. Lunch is served in a welcoming guesthouse or cozy café, offering a chance to relax and enjoy local hospitality.

In the afternoon we drive toward the Jumgal Valley. From Kyzart Pass we already catch sight of summer yurt camps scattered across the landscape. The road then descends past Jumgal village and brings us to the small settlement of Kyzart, where we have dinner and spend the night.
