Kolsay lakes - Almaty

The next day, we hike down to the first lake. Then we drive to Lake Kaindy, at an altitude of 1,667 metres. The drive takes about an hour. This lake is famous for its fascinating origin. It was formed in 1911 after a strong earthquake caused a landslide, blocking the gorge and flooding the forest valley.

The water in Kaindy Lake is extremely cold, which has preserved the submerged tree trunks. These can be seen with great clarity across the lake's transparent expanse. It's a striking sight to see the tree trunks emerge from the water in stark contrast to the surrounding landscape.

After admiring Kaindy Lake, we begin our descent to the village. We then take the road to Almaty. In the evening, we enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.

Finally, we end our day by settling into our hotel.
