Issyk Kul region

The Ak-Tilek market in the city of Karakol is not just a trading platform, it is a real cultural center and the heart of this picturesque city. Situated on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, it is one of the most picturesque markets in Central Asia and attracts both locals and tourists from all over the world.

Rakhat-Kol is one of the most picturesque and amazing places in the Ysyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. It is a mountain lake located at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level, surrounded by the majestic Tien Shan mountains. The name "Rakhat-Kol" translates as "lake of sweet water", and this absolutely corresponds to its crystal clear water, which changes its color from bright blue to emerald depending on the time of day and lighting.

The Kaynar River has its source in the Borkoldoy massif. At the foot of the glaciers lies its 2 km long lake, formed after a landslide. 

The contrast between glaciers, black and red rocks, and meadows where sheep and marmots graze is totally incredible.

Chong-Tash camping site, which means “big stone” in translation, is mentioned in the writings of Semyonov Tien-Shansky (Russian geographer, botanist, statistician, economist, traveler, statesman and public figure. He received a postscript to his surname “Tyan-Shansky”,  because he described the Tien-Shan mountains). But Buddhist inscriptions show that this place was known long before that.

This is a very quiet and peaceful place.

The Moldobashi peak is located in the Djetim massif which marks the border between the oblast of Issyk Kul and Naryn. 

From Kyrgyz, one could translate by "the head of the one who prays". The easiest access is from the village of Archaly, to the north, if not from the Naryn nature reserve, to the south.

Allanysh Jergez Lakes are found at the foot of Allanysh Pass, at the top of Chong Jergez Gorge. To the south, the lakes are surrounded by a mountain crown. To the north, a large meadow allows you to set up a tent camp. A large lake 400 meters long is to the east, and a smaller one to the west.

Karakol Zoological Park was founded in 1987. It is the only zoo in Kyrgyzstan. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the country's economy was severely eroded and in 2001 the zoo almost closed. Fortunately, partners and sponsors have been able to preserve the wildlife and keep the parks in relatively good condition.

Managed by NABU from 2003 to 2013, it is today managed by the Bugu-Enye Foundation. The aim of this park is not to increase the variety of animals, but to collect wild animals in difficulty.
