Initially an ethnic Kazakh village, Ölgii's history dates back over 200 years, with Kazakhs drawn to the Altai region due to pressures from the Russian Empire and Chinese communism.

Darkhan is a city in northern Mongolia, the administrative center of the Darkhan-Uul province. It is located approximately 230 kilometers northwest of the capital Ulaanbaatar. Darkhan is the second largest city in Mongolia after Ulaanbaatar and has strategic importance as the transport and industrial center of the region.

Lake Khovsgol
