The Great Crossing of the Pamir and Tian Shan range

In the morning, we leave the mountainous village of Arslanbob, famous for its vast natural walnut forests that cover the surrounding hills. The road gradually descends from the cool mountainous landscapes to the fertile plains of the Ferghana Valley, passing through orchards, small villages, and cultivated fields that reveal the agricultural richness of southern Kyrgyzstan.

Our first stop is the city of Jalal-Abad, an important regional center known for its lively markets and multicultural atmosphere influenced by both Kyrgyz and Uzbek traditions. We take time to walk around the bustling bazaar district and discover the daily rhythm of the city before continuing our journey through the fertile valley.

A short drive takes us to Uzgen, one of the historical gems of the region and a former trading town on the Silk Road. There, we visit the remarkable medieval complex composed of an elegant minaret and several Karakhanid mausoleums decorated with intricate brick patterns. These monuments, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, offer a fascinating insight into the architectural and cultural heritage of Central Asia.

In the afternoon, we reach the southern capital of the country, Osh. The highlight of the visit is the sacred mountain of Sulaiman-Too, an impressive limestone hill rising in the middle of the city and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A walk along its trails leads to several small shrines and viewpoints, offering a panoramic view of Osh and the surrounding Ferghana Valley.

Back to Osh to reach the city of Jalal-Abad. The road is in very good condition. Visit of the Uzgen's minaret of the XI century. In mid-afternoon arrival in Jalal-Abad, homestay accommodation. Walking in the green parks and free time to enjoy a good shower after the trek in the mountains. Transfer time: 4h

In the morning, we leave Kazarman and head east, crossing the Makmal Valley, known for its former gold mines. We gradually ascend to the Akkya Pass (2,932 m), then descend into the remote village of Kosh-Doeboe, one of the most isolated in the country. We continue through the Alabuga Valley, enjoying wild and untouched nature.

Next, we reach the village of Baetova, set among desert-like landscapes surrounded by red rock formations. We stop for lunch at a local restaurant before beginning the climb to the MELS Pass (3,383 m). From the top, the contrast of landscapes is breathtaking, with green pastures, graphite cliffs, and red rocks creating an unforgettable view. We then descend to the small hamlet of Orto Cyrt before ascending to the Kulakashuu Pass (3,399 m), offering stunning views of the vast pastures where Kyrgyz nomads spend the summer with their livestock in yurts.

In the afternoon, we continue our descent to the main road connecting Bishkek and Kashgar, before reaching the Tash-Rabat Valley. In the evening, we arrive at the famous caravanserai, a historical monument of the Silk Road. We settle in for the night in a yurt.
