Naryn Region

The Son Kul Range is a mountain range located north of Lake Son Kul in central Kyrgyzstan. This mountain range is part of the inner Tien Shan and forms the natural border of the northern side of the Son Kul high-altitude plateau.

The range rises above the lake and creates a picturesque mountain landscape with alpine meadows, wide pastures, and steep slopes. The Son Kul Range covers the northern part of the lake and reaches its highest point at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level.

This open pit mine is one of the largest in Kyrgyzstan. You can see it when you take the road between Song Kul Lake and Chaek.

The At-Bashi Range is 135km long and culminates at 4,801 meters. It stretches from the southwest, from the Muz-Tor valley and the Tuz-Bel Ashuu pass, to the northeast to Bosogo and the Kayindi pass. North of the chain is the At-Bashi Valley at an average altitude of 2,500 meters. North side, the slopes are steep and covered with rich vegetation. On the south side, the plain of Ak-Say is at an average altitude of 3200 meters. The highest peak is the Rhianydd at 4,801 meters. The At-Basi peak rises to 4788 meters and is the second highest in the chain.

Nestled within the rugged beauty of the Kyrgyz landscape, Song Kul Lake, also known as Song Kul, emerges as the quintessential pastureland of nomadic life. Stretching over vast expanses, this high-altitude lake spans approximately 25 to 35 kilometers, its crystalline waters mirroring the azure sky above. As the beating heart of nomadic existence, hundreds of traditional yurts dot the landscape during the summer months, forming a transient village that echoes with the spirit of generations past.

Salkyn-Tor National Park is located on the forested northern slope of the Naryn Too mountain range about 18 km east of the town of Naryn. The park was established in May 2001 and has an area of 104 km². It can be reached easily by the road up the Naryn River. The entrance fee to the park costs $ 1 per person.
One of the objectives of the park is to increase the local population of Maral, which has declined sharply since independence. Other animals inhabit the forests of the Naryn Range include roe deer, Eurasian lynx, and brown bear.

Sary Kamysh pastures lie on the border of Jalal Abad and Naryn oblast. The region is sparsely inhabited and road access is very difficult. This is what makes the place exceptional. It is accessed from Kyzyl Oy by the Kyrk Kyz pass 3223 meters above sea level and from the west from the village of Toluk, and the Tör Jayloo pass at 2465 meters above sea level. A road descends to the south to join the Kekemeren (Kökömeren) river and its magnificent red sandstone canyon.
