Great excursion in the Terskey range

We hit the road towards the city of Karakol, on the foot of the high Tien Shan Mountains. As we enter the Ala Too Mountain range, we go for a hike in the stunning canyon of Konorchek. Picnic in the canyon. We drive to Karakol along the northern shore of Issyk Kul lake, the second largest mountain lake in the world after the Titicaca in Peru. We arrive in Karakol city and get accommodated.

After big breakfast we start our hiking through the Jety Oguz pass 3400, and possible to ascent Jeti Oguz mount 3550m. to get a better view on Oguz Bashi mount, descent to Djety Oguz valley. Overnight in yurts. (2300m.)

Here we go for a beautiful trekking day from the rock formations of Jety Oguz. This day is perfect to acclimatize thanks to a small elevation, reduced altitude, splendid and varied landscapes and there are still many yurts on the way to get acquainted with the customs of Kyrgyz semi-nomadic breeders. We eventually arrive at a nice yurt camp where we’ll stay overnight.

Today we hike only 8 km to the geophysical and meteo station, on the way stop at hot springs water. We will arrive early to the refuge. Free time for walking around the station or into the Ashu Tor valley. Night in refuge (2550m).

Today we hike up to Karabatkak lake and lunch there. After picnic time we go down by the same way. Overnight in tents.

We hike back to Ak-Tash, then we ascend a plateau which opens a beautiful view of Lake Issyk-Kul. Descent to the Kichi Kyzyl-Suu Valley. Overnight in tents at 2350m. 5-6 hours walk, 16 km.

In the morning, walk till the Juukutchak valley (2-3h - 7km), possibility to have bath in the hot water springs. Lunch, then drive to Tamga (50km), a small village well-known from soviet time for its healthy climate. Night in guesthouse.

After breakfast, we head back to Bishkek along the dry south shore of Issyk Kul lake. We discover the wonderful canyon of Skazka (fairy tale). The red, ocher, or yellow sedimentary rocks are stunning and seem to be taken out from another planet. After this visit we meet Aitbek, a berkutchy, one of the few Kyrgyz eagle hunter who will show us how he trains his golden eagle for the hunt. We continue our drive and eventually arrive in Bishkek city.
Farewell dinner together with the local team and night at a cozy hotel.
